In his travels as a child he heard stories about people being able to walk up trees and walk on water with no problem. Now, there was no water here for him to test out the latter, but he was sure that he could master the prior pretty easily. Kugujutsu experts were all excellent at manipulating their chakra in ways the average Ninjutsu expert just was not. He walked up to a small shack, likely built to house training equipment, and placed the sole of his left foot on it hard. He extended his chakra past it similarly to when he threaded it through his finger tips to control a puppet, but not as fine. He got some of the chakra into the wood of the shack and then pulled back, and he felt a strong suction almost immediately. He then took a second step, and lo and behold it was sticking! He ran all the way up to the top of the shack and then lost his footing up there, sliding down but using the technique to catch himself before hitting the ground. "Damn,
this is kind of useful!"

Content momentarily with his repertoire of Ninjutsu techniques, he new an astonishing zero Genjutsu techniques! This was to be remedied post haste! He knew of one technique in particular that was of a lower rank so he would not have a lot of issues with learning it.

There was another shinobi present, one all full of angst and excitement, though he was not wearing the head band. In fact, he looked like he was a child, probably an academy student. He was standing in front of a medium sized bolder with his hands folded clumsily into some sort of an attempt at a hand seal shouting, "Why won't you substitute with me you stupid rock!?!" It was such a horrible thing to do, but that was not going to be nearly enough to stop Voltaire from doing what he was planning to do. The first part was he has to get in the kid's line of site. He walked over to where the big rock was, and it came up to about his waist, meaning that the kid could still see him. He was not looking at the child, but kept him in his peripheral while forming the hand sign and silently hoping as he so often did that there was no Hell. Another part of him hoped there was because he would come back one of the tormentors. He started to release his own chakra out into the air, and the child could definitely see the air that it was in, though it was not thick enough to give off that blue glow like it did when his threads were in use.

He felt like it was officially in the kid's head, so he was going to continue from there.
He knew how to visualize and make his chakra follow, so he figured that this would be a far more detailed and micro version of that, and as with most things is the case, he was absolutely right. He put the colors and shapes and sounds of wind blowing to rustle up some leaves in the kid's head. And to his shock, the kid started to look around in confusion. "Bright green leaves..." he said, "how strange..." It then occurred to Voltaire how silly this technique was when used in Sunagakure, or in most places that weren't forests for that matter. But kids are stupid so let's keep on pretending that this scenario would not immediately arouse the suspicions of any competent human being!

He let his chakra delve deep into the child's mind, wishing that he could go with it and really have some kind of mind reading. After a minute or so of Voltaire assuming that he had somehow failed something, which even on the first try would make no sense because he is the superior specimen not only of shinobi kind but of the human race in general. For some time, nothing happened, but then,
something happened! The boy started to cry horribly shouting for his mother and father, asking what happened to them, even shaking invisible corpses. Makes sense, Voltaire thought to himself.
As cruel and inhuman as he could be, Voltaire was still a momma's boy. When the boy came running up to him for help he ended the Jutsu.
"Don't worry kid, take a look, it was just a mirage, you need to make sure you stay hydrated if you want to do this village proud! I wish more ninja would train until they hallucinated!" The child calmed down, and was excited by what Voltaire said. He then ran over to what Voltaire had thought was the supply shack. It was a water shack, so training ninja didn't die. That makes more sense.

Voltaire was not yet done playing with the kid's head by any stretch of the imagination,
so he walked into the shack to make sure that he could stay in the kid's line of sight and further his knowledge in Genjutsu techniques. He stepped in and from the faucet filled two of the small tin cups, one for himself and one for the child, closing the faucet immediately because quite frankly it is a desert and water is a valuable resource! When the kid smiled up at him, it was time to move. He let out more of his chakra between the two of them and it was starting. He had begun crafting what he needed the outside to look like. He put his hand on the boy and smiled back at him, making sure that the line of sight would not be broken. He sipped some water and asked the boy things like where he was from, how long he had been in the academy, how well his studies were going, which Voltaire asserted were likely the highest among his class mates based upon the way that he was training,
and he barely paid a lick of attention to what the kid was saying, but he knew it was going to have set in by that point so he decided to start towards the doorway, gesturing for the academy student to follow him so that they could both resume with their training.

As they stepped out the doorway, not the child, but Voltaire was shocked. Nothing had changed, which would potentially make sense saying as he was the one who had cast it not the one on whom it had been cast, but the boy was reacting to his surroundings as if nothing had happened as well! He knew that the Chakra had connected, and he was trying to just let the idea of a forest that he had implanted into the boy's mind that way do what it did last time with the swirling of the leaves, but now what? Was there an error in his mode of thinking? Maybe this would require more effort, so he sat down on the ground in front of the child again, claiming to watch him train so that he could get a better idea on how to help him with the substitution jutsu by knowing what exactly he was doing wrong, something Voltaire wished he had a sensei to do for him at the moment. He started to craft every bit of what the surroundings had to look like. He focused all of his Chakra on the boy and went to work.

Voltaire started to visualize everything that he wanted the world to be in the eyes of the young child. Having traveled it would not be hard, being born in the land of wind visiting a forest was such a vivid and hard to forget experience for him. He closed his eyes and saw fields of dark green grass, almost blue it was so dark. He saw enormous trees, two or three stories tall, that were like rough brown cylinders until they got to the top and sprouted out into a million directions into brilliant green canapes. Between the individual blades of grass there was soft, damp ground that bore life so effortlessly. In the middle of the scene there ran a small yet powerful stream. Fish would occasionally jump up after an insect, or just hover around just below the surface nibbling at things that fall into the water. Along the shore there were several small, smooth, gray stones. The trees through a refreshing shade over so much of the area. He had the stone that the child was trying to substitute with remain the same, and had the sand surrounding the stone and the child exist as a clearing.

Voltaire then put the technique into effect as soon as he saw the child close his eyes to take a swing from his tin cup. As soon as the child opened his eyes the panic of his situation hit him like a ton of Bijuu. He instantly broke into tears and ran over to Voltaire. "Mister!" he shouted, "When did we get in a forest?" Voltaire looked at him with faux confusion. "Why aren't you answering?!?" he accused more than asked the older ninja.

Voltaire crouched down on his knees and put his gloved hand into the sand, pulling up a hand full of it and looking at the boy with the most sincere look of fake concern possible without producing a second Genjutsu, something of an illusion within an illusion, though as he carried the facade with him at all times he hardly saw it that way.
"Look buddy, it is sand, we are still very much in a desert!"

But to the boy, Voltaire was holding a hand full of fertile dirt, earth worms that he had never and may never see in real life still wriggling around in it. Content with his work and not wanting to have to drag a kid to a therapist's office to avoid being down a useful future warrior, Voltaire decided to end the technique.

The child was a bit confused, in fact he was well beyond that point and moving into complete and utter disorientation, which made this an opportune time to strike. Disorientation means literally to not face East, and East is where people used to face instead of North to figure out where they were, so let's make this kid question even further where he is by messing with his sense of direction entirely! He grabbed the kid's shoulders and looked sympathetically into his eyes, pretending he was trying to make sure that the kid was alright, but in reality he was upping his chances of succeeding at hitting him with one last genjutsu. He made the chakra connection and started to focus on his own sense of direction, trying to figure out where exactly it was coming from.

Whenever he thought about up, down, left, right, forwards, or backwards, he could feel it physically, and he knew that this was not just a trick of the mind, or even if it was who cares, that is sort of what Genjutsu is all about! He started to sift through the kid's head with his chakra, not able to read his mind or anything of that sort, but he could definitely suss out something similar to what he was trying to find in his own head, in fact it seemed very prominently featured in the base of the mind. Which made sense saying as it was so vital to something as simple as getting up and walking in something that isn't a disorganized circle. Having located that, he focused his chakra there, but he did not yet activate it. The child seemed entirely ignorant to what was going on, leaning forward to hug Voltaire, which he reluctantly allowed. He delicately pried the kid away from him and then took his hand to walk him away from the rock so that he could get some proper rest in, grabbing both cups so that the child could get some more water in his system, assuring him that you could never have water, and adding that having to remember things like that made Suna ninja smarter than the ninja of other villages.

As they walked, the child began to wobble a bit on his feet, but he was still mostly going in the right direction. Voltaire pretended not to notice and picked up their stride in hopes of throwing him further off balance. He also loosened his grip on the kid's hand, which the child was far too worried about his own balance to notice, but would occasionally squeeze down for some support, though it did nothing to help his current situation. He poured more and more chakra through the contact of their hands in hopes of upping the voltage of the technique, but it was not doing a whole lot. He was still something of a novice and this was taking far too long. But just as he felt like all was lost and that he had no place in the whole illusion casting business, a ray of bright hope shone through those dark gloomy clouds as his attempts to confuse a scared and exhausted child were starting to come further to fruition. He noticed that with every step they'd take the child was veering harder and harder to the left.

Voltaire released the hand of the child and then got in front of him, motioning to come towards him, if asked he intended to lie and claim that it was a diagnosis test, as it did indeed look like a real one that he could say he was doing if somebody came up to them and asked about why he was not moving to catch the poor child who obviously had some neurological issue or was under the effects of a very cruel and immoral Genjutsu test in the name of the training of a sociopath held only to the standards of his own warped morality in spite of his awareness of the one already built by the existing society of the era.

In a moment of triumph for one young shinobi, and a moment of abject horror for a much younger shinobi in training, the boy started to walk in circles, crying and shouting, unaware of why he was not getting any closer to the waiting Voltaire, who, as far as his eyes could track, was still there waiting for him with those soft, patient, blue eyes. He broke the technique and then ran to the child's side once more, content for the day, knowing that he could only go so far without being asked to spend the rest of his life either in a prison or as a missing nin to be hunted by his own brethren, which Voltaire viewed as the darkest fate imaginable.

PostSubject: Re: Learning some new tricks   Learning some new tricks EmptyTue Nov 21, 2017 9:35 am

Voltaire had brushed up on his Genjutsu a lot, really stepped that game up signifigantly,
but now he had a child in panic that he had to reassure wasn't dying. He held up a finger to the cihld,
asking silently that the child wait while Voltaire devised a plan. He needed a technique that could scan the body and make absolutely sure for both of them that Voltaire had not done any lasting damage to the developing mind. He thought about how he could often get some information when using the puppet just from the tugs and looseness of the chakra thread at any given time, and decided there had to be a way to apply that to the human body. He started to mold his chakra inside of his body, making sure to do so only within and not outside, he had it slowly trickle through every organ, every vein, every hair, every pore, and every joint, moving into every cell and even feeling the chakra network itself which he had previously seen only in artistic depictions. He then put his hands on his midsection and tried to direct the chakra that had already done all of that back into his hand. And he definitely felt something happen.

Voltaire slowly approached the child, and pressed his palm against the boy's midsection. He pressed his chakra quickly but weakly into the boy's body, pushing it through his skin first, spreading it through all of it, and then expanding both into the hair and then it crept into some of the deeper tissue, the muscles at first, moving into the tendons and using those as a gate way to pass into the walls of the bones. It circled all throughout those and then deepened into the marrow. It passed from the point of the initial touch, going deeper and deeper into the stomach. From there it extended in both directions, into every cell of the digestive track. It then came back to him with the clarity of somebody reading him a fact sheet on the health of the boy. His bones were still growing of course, the bones in his legs still had that growth plate or whatever it was called, and his skull seemed less connected than Voltaire's. He had a full lunch and his muscles weren't sprained or torn,
and one of his teeth had a serious cavity. Lucky for him and all of the complete bull shit he had been feeding the kid, he actually WAS badly dehydrated. Whether this was before or caused by the running around and crying, Voltaire was going to be an optimist and say it was likely the prior. He sent the child home and told him to have bed rest and lots of water. The boy thanked Voltaire with another very much unwanted hug before taking off.

Voltaire decided that he was going to need to master the Chakra Scalpel jutsu if he was going to be doing any surgery without using the steel release or a knife that could be damaged and also costed money. He poured all of it into his right hand and it became visual, which surprised him, because it was not normal for him to see that blue glow when it was not his chakra threads. He ran up to the wooden water shack and slammed his right hand against the wall of it like he was karate chopping it, but he did not get the effect he was hoping for by a wide birth. He made his hand sore and scratched up the wood a little. He was focusing harder on the hand and pushing out more and more of his chakra, but it was just getting bigger instead of getting better. His glove was inflating, but not tearing. This was bad, he was trying to get it to spread around his glove, not touch it! Also, none of the chakra scalpel attempt hit everything equally instead of having specific liquid points of impact.

Voltaire took a few moments to concentrate his chakra instead of taking another wild swing and trying the exact same thing twice. He started it very thin at first, and this time it did not puncture the fabric of the glove. It was thin around the glove, and it was getting smaller, bluer, and more visible. The very ends of it were now sharp, concentrated points of spiritual energy instead of being a blunt life force cheese grater forming around his hand the last time. He started to swing around his hand, slashing up some of the wood, but not really cutting deep, and not really getting the type of accuracy that he had hoped for and that this technique had promised when he read about it in some Ninjutsu medicine journals praising it as the best thing since hovering hands. He knew that it could live up to that reccomendatoin if only he tried harder! He poured in more and more chakra, giving his all to making it sharper, but the third attempt was no different from the second attempt.
He had to try something new if this was going to go anywhere.

Voltaire started to mold the chakra longer and more efficiently. The spikes extended further outward, and now the indents between the spikes were getting deeper. It was moving with the fluidity of sands swirling in the winds, the highs and lows frequently changing position, long points becoming deep indentations, dips in the chakra coating of the hand becoming javelins of might. It looked glorious like it was supposed to now and would likely do more than just deface a wall, but reduce it entirely to splinters where he put his hand. It was moving through his glove without harming it in any way or even interacting with it, as if the glove and the chakra were taking up the same space in different dimensions of reality.

He kept his hand straight but got back on his haunches and wheeled his arm back like he was going for a punch before striking at the wall with all of his force, and it was truly glorious in the eyes of the wielder. The chakra followed his physical body, so the chakra extending from his middle finger collided with the wall first, immediately puncturing the wood. Then came the chakra of the other fingers and along the sides of his hand. The motion of the many little blades of chakra shredded at it, ripping it up until all that remained was a large hole, big enough for him to put his head through but not big enough for him to feel comfortable in doing so without losing some hair or getting cut up himself by splinters upon taking his head back out. When he pulled his hand back he smirked with pride, until he then realized that he had no idea how to actually control the technique.

PostSubject: Re: Learning some new tricks   Learning some new tricks EmptyWed Nov 22, 2017 11:07 pm

Voltaire walked to another place on the water shed and focused hard on how the technique was not shredding his gloves. He thought about it at first as how it made sense, how a lighter was not burned by the fire that it produced, but then he realized just how unbelievably stupid it was tojust think that whatever made a power was immune from it. He knew all too well that a human being could be hurt by their own fist hitting something. The power of the flames got stronger as they got further and further away from the source, and the Chakra Scalpel was no different from that in theory or in practice. He placed his flat hand out so that his middle finger touched the wood, and at first it was still chipping it, but he put all of the control that he could muster into the technique.

It went from starting to chip to then just scratching, and as he poured more and more of his focus into it eventually ceased to cut it at all, the chakra was still a force there, but it was not damaging the wood, it was just saturating it, moving effortlessly through it. He then tried to form the tip of a blade again, not starting at the base and moving forward, but starting at that tip and molding it. He carved into the wood on the other side of the wall without damaging the wood that was on his own side.
He moved the tip of the blade without moving his own hand, and then ended his use of the chakra weapon for the time being. He walked into the door and looked at the other side of the wall, which was not adorned with a V.
